AI won’t learn English for you, but it can be a patient practice partner between lessons. Here’s how I suggest using it — as a helper, not a replacement for real conversation.
- Check your pronunciation. Read a short text aloud into a speech-to-text tool and see what it heard. If the words on screen match what you meant, you’re being understood.
- Build vocabulary in context. Ask a chatbot for five example sentences using a new word, in situations from your own life — work, family, travel. Whole sentences stick far better than single words.
- Rehearse before the real thing. Practise a tricky moment — booking an appointment, a work call — a few times, then take it into a real conversation.
One gentle warning: AI is confident even when it’s wrong, and it can’t hear the small human things — warmth, hesitation, humour. Use it to prepare, then bring what you’ve practised to a real person. That’s where language truly comes alive.
